4. Side Windows Need To Be Replaced Soon

You've probably seen a few cars driving around with packing tape or a trash bag serving as a makeshift window in place of one that has been broken. This can actually be a good way of keeping the elements out of a vehicle, but only as a short-term fix as you're waiting for your appointment to get the glass replaced. The most obvious reason this isn't a long-term solution is, of course, that using anything other than glass will reduce your visibility, making driving much more dangerous. What's more, it will be less safe in an accident and may invite further break-ins. But it can have longer-term consequences, as well.

It's fair to say that we live in an area where rain is simply part of life. Driving around for too long with a temporary cover may allow rain to get into the door itself. This could cause electrical components within the door to stop working, and can even cause the door to rust from the inside. This kind of rust isn't easy to notice . . . until your door has holes in it, that is.

3. Cracked & Chipped Windshields Can Sometimes Be Replaced

If your windshield develops a crack or a chip, you may not have to replace the entire thing. Sometimes, windshield damage can be repaired for a lower price than glass replacement. If a chip is small enough and out of your direct line of vision, it's a good candidate for repair. But if it is in your line of sight, replacement is the better option. And, if your windshield has three or more chips or cracks, it may need to be replaced--even if they're small. In addition, it's important to get these nicks seen to and repaired immediately. Cracks can spread rapidly, particularly during the rainy season, so your window of time to repair the windshield may be small.

2. Use OEM Replacement Auto Glass

Windshields and car windows are a crucial part of your vehicle's structural integrity, so it's important that they be held to high standards. That's why we always recommend using OEM windshields and windows instead of going with the aftermarket. The auto glass that you find on the aftermarket will probably meet the minimum standards set by the Department of Transportation (unless you find a really shady provider), but Chevy goes above and beyond. OEM GM windshields and windows will exceed DOT standards, and they'll be perfectly suited to your Chevy. It will also have the proper thickness, tint, and fit, so that it will fit your vehicle perfectly.

1. Use a Quality Auto Glass Installer

Installing a new window or windshield isn't as easy as simply plopping it into place. It takes care and caution. For example, gloves should always be used when installing new auto glass; otherwise, the adhesives might not bond the right way. If you get your auto glass replaced at a shop that's less than reputable, simple mistakes like this could cause no shortage of trouble for you.

That's why we recommend using the Capitol Auto Group Collision Center. The technicians there are experts at replacing auto glass, as well as other auto-body-related issues.
